What is a corrugated panel?

Corrugated sheets are a type of covering in metallic and non-metallic types that has a repeating wavy or rippled pattern across its design and are used in different parts of the building such as roof, wall, and floor. In addition to their lightness and different dimensions, these corrugated plates are very popular in the market due to their resistant material and low cost.

These are compatible with any weather conditions and are resistant to them. Their shape increases their resistance against impact and changes in temperature, sunlight, and rain. And in general, these advantages have increased the use of these sheets.

Corrugated sheets have different colors, shapes, and standard sizes. Therefore, different models should be selected and ordered based on your intended purpose in the building or structure.

One of the reasons they are wavy is to prevent the rain from stopping on the roof. These wavy panels direct the rain toward the ground.

Well, now that you are familiar with corrugated plates and their use, it is time to learn the corrugated panels installation process.

Now if you want to install roofing with a DIY process, make sure to follow all of the steps for corrugated panels installation to complete the job with the best results.

Step 1: use the map

Before installing the sheets on the ceiling or wall, it is necessary to proceed according to the designed plan and correctly implement the substructure and installation of the sheets. The map specifies the exact dimensions and location of the pages.  Using an accurate pre-designed plan for your intended purpose to install panels will make your work easier and help you save time and the cost of the number of pages, so be sure to proceed according to the plan.  Installation without a map could end up being a costly mistake; otherwise, seeking advice from a professional prior.

Since during the process of installing wavy panels for the ceiling or wall, you use electrical and professional tools to do your work, prioritize the necessity of following safety tips and using protective equipment for your safety.

So, always use face shields, safety glasses, gloves, and other protective equipment when cutting or drilling panels and performing installation operations.

Step 3: Prepare the necessary equipment.

For measurement, cutting, and installation, according to the type and form of corrugated sheets, use suitable equipment for ease of installation.

Tools needed:

  • Basic carpentry tools
  • Drill
  • Carpenter Square
  • Tape measure
  • Power circular saw
  • Flathead & polycarbonate washers.
  • Power drive and bits: 1/8” and 3/8”
  • Utility knife
  • Horizontal closure strip
  • Caulk.,

To install corrugated panels, you must first use metal frames to fix the panels. After installing the beams or frames on the wall or ceiling, measure and cut the corrugated boards evenly. Place them according to the plan on the desired surface at equal distances, and attach them to the surface of the wall or ceiling with screws or rivets. Then install the corrugated metal plates on the frames using screws or rivets.

Step 5: Cut and place the sheet correctly

Cut the corrugated sheets according to the dimensions of the map and fix them on the metal frames if you need to shape them. Each corrugated panel contains protrusions and recesses. To arrange them side by side and overlap, you must place the new panel’s first protrusion over the previous panel’s last recess. In other words, each cap should be overlapped by the next cap in the run by a minimum of 150mm. Place the overlap of the panels in the direction of the wind.  One of the reasons, as mentioned before, is to help guide the rain and prevent it from accumulating on the roof surface so that rainwater can drain into a gutter or beyond the wall.

After overlapping the sheets, it is recommended to use adhesive tape. To ensure a weatherproof connection, use screws and sealants on side edges and to cover open joints. After completing the steps, clean the dust from the drilling process and make sure that the screws that hold the sheets together are tightly closed at the end of the installation operation; use the cap.
